A Wildebeest Migration Safari in Africa is a Natural phenomena occur all over the world, but very few can compete with the sheer size of the annual Wildebeest Migration through the Serengeti-Mara Ecosystem.
The numbers alone are hard to believe: up to 2 million animals – wildebeest as well as zebra and gazelle – follow the rains and their ancient instincts on a death-defying, 3 000-kilometre (1 900-mile) journey. It’s drama on a truly epic scale: the migrating herds undergo all manner of challenges and hardships as they move from region to region. They’re constantly under attack from predators, none more so than from Africa’s big cats – lion, leopard and cheetah – and the massive crocodiles that lie in wait at various river crossing points.
Touching down in Nairobi, you will be met by one of our representative who will pick you up and be whisked to the Nairobi Serena Hotel for check in. You will have a short brief of what will unfold the next day. Overnight at the Nairobi Panafric Hotel Meal Plan Bed and Breakfast.
Pick up from hotel in the morning, have a safari briefing session with our tour officer then drive to Lake Nakuru national to arrive in time for Lunch at Lake Nakuru Woodlands Hotel. Afternoon game drive follows then return to the camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s two Premium Parks, and is a birdlover’s paradise. It surrounds Lake Nakuru, located in the Central Rift Conservation Area in the Southern Rift Valley region of Kenya. Originally protected as a bird sanctuary, this park hosts over 400 bird species, including 5 globally threatened species, and is an important stop on the African-Eurasian Migratory Flyway. This park was also the first national Rhino sanctuary and hosts one of the world’s highest concentrations of the Black Rhinoceros.
Depart the camp after breakfast and drive via the scenic floor of the Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara. We have lunch then proceed for evening game drives. Dinner and overnight stay at Mara Maisha Luxury camp
Maasai Mara (Masai Mara) is known as Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserve, situated in southwest Kenya. There’s an optional early morning balloon safari ride across the Maasai Mara plain, an incredible experience. The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. You will easily see lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffe, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, buffalo, leopard, many kinds of antelopes and elephant. It is in the Mara that perhaps the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti (Tanzania) in search of water and pasture. Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park, also a world heritage site and recently proclaimed a 7th world wide wonder, the Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle.
These two full days you will explore central Serengeti on morning and afternoon game drives. After breakfast leave your lodge with a packed lunch (or have lunch at the lodge) with game drives in the park. Tanzania’s Serengeti offers superb game-viewing even out of migration time, when vast herds of buffalo, eland, topi, waterbuck, impala, kongoni and Grant’s gazelle can be seen grazing in the thousands. The Serengeti is famous not only for its migrating wildebeest and herbivores but also for its high concentration of big cats and other predators that these grazers attract. Today you will wake have your early and drive to Ngorongoro with an en route game drive. Arrive at the lodge in time for an early lunch. Afterwards depart on an afternoon game drive at the crater. With walls 2,000 ft high and a crater floor that spreads for 102 sq miles, the crater is a virtual ‘Noah’s Ark’, inhabited by almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa including the rare black rhino. In fact, the crater has the greatest concentration of wildlife on the planet. It contains a river, several swamps, a soda lake that, from the top, looks like stream, full of flamingos, a forest and open plains. The large bull elephants that reside here have extremely large tusks, due to the rich mineral content of the volcanic soil and its grasses.
